The stone stele that was found buried in the sand in 1799 in the city of Rashid of Nile Delta was the focal point. It was the beginning of the revelation of a language and the moment of decoding the hieroglyphics by J.Fr.Champollion. Since then, it became possible for us to approach the structure of a language that is understood only in a written format.
The hieroglyphics, over 2,000 in number, were a combination of symbols, logograms and alphabetical data that decorated temples and sculptures of Egypt. Specifically there were three types: The alphabetical data that had phonetic value, the logograms that were images containing a meaning and other decisive elements that were read and contained additional information on the meaning of the word.
I was born and grew up in Egypt. Therefore, the memories of my past have been the incentive to produce a series of works dedicated to the rich cultural inheritance of the place I first saw and got attached to. My idea is to create a jumble of colors, forms and meanings that embrace the artistic value of this visual language.
